Sustainability
Hurtigruten's two new hybrid-powered expedition ships combine 125 years of know-how with spectacular design and cutting-edge technology. The new MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjof are named after two of the greatest heroes in polar exploration history. They designed their fleet of 13 ships with safety, comfort, and environmental protection as their guiding principles. Each ship features modern facilities carefully blended with true character. Hurtigruten seeks to minimize the impact of their activities and put a great deal of effort into preserving their destinations, strengthening their environmental initiatives, and running a responsible and sustainable operation.
Expedition Teams
Hurtigruten's expedition teams are highly trained experts who serve as your hosts on board, during landings, and on shore. They love to share their knowledge and passion, and are dedicated to creating a relaxed and educational atmosphere for our guests. From whale watching to penguin peeping to iceberg gazing, Hurtigruten's expedition leaders have a front row seat to some of the world's most amazing experiences.
Fresh Cuisine
Hurtigruten boasts of it "Norway Coastal Kitchen" method, emphasizing daily cuisine that reflects the regions through which it sails. This focus means nearly all food onboard is fresh, purchased in each port. Sometimes fishermen even sail out to the ship to hand-deliver the fish themselves. Local specialties are served daily and food-based activities are held onboard depending on the towns and regions through which the ships pass. "Fish ice cream" is often offered to those who are brave enough to try it.
